 St. Pete Ocean Sweep 2025 - Frequently Asked Questions 

 

 What is the St. Pete Ocean Sweep?  

The St. Pete Ocean Sweep is a large-scale trash collection tournament focused on removing debris from waterways and shorelines in St. Petersburg, Florida. Hosted by Water Warrior Alliance, the event brings together volunteers, divers, boaters, anglers, and beach lovers to make a tangible impact on marine pollution.

 

 When and where is the event taking place?  

The 2025 St. Pete Ocean Sweep is scheduled for  Saturday, April 5, 2025 . The cleanup begins at first light across Pinellas County and surrounding areas, with the main event opening to the public at  12:00 PM .

 

 How do I register to participate?

Individuals, teams, and organizations are encouraged to sign up in advance to secure their spot. Walk-up registrations may be available on the day of the event if space permits.

 

 Who can participate?  

Anyone who wants to make a difference! Volunteers of all ages, including individuals, families, corporate teams, and community groups, are welcome. Divers and boaters are encouraged to participate in the underwater and offshore cleanups.

 

 How does the cleanup work?  

Participants will go out on their own to clean up their chosen area—shorelines, waterways, or underwater locations. Once finished, they will bring the collected trash to SkyBeach Hotel and Marina between 12:30p- 2:30p on 4/5/25 to be eligible for prize, and to receive free food, drinks and swag!

 

 Suggested Cleanup Supplies  

Participants should bring:

 

- Reusable water bottle

- Sunscreen (reef-safe recommended)

- Gloves

- Bucket or reusable bag for trash collection

- Hat and sunglasses for sun protection

- Sturdy shoes (for shoreline cleanups)

- Snorkel or dive gear (for divers)\

  Boaters should ensure they have safety gear and trash bags aboard their vessels.

 

 Will supplies be provided?  

Limited cleanup supplies, including gloves, buckets, and trash bags,  will be available for pickup on  Saturday, April 5, at 8:30 AM  from  Skybeach Hotel and Marina .\

However, participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies to help reduce waste.

 

 Is there a fee to participate?  

No, the event is free to join! However, donations are welcome and directly support environmental programs, including scholarships for Camp Coral SCUBA Camp.

 

 Are there prizes or incentives for participation?  

Yes! Participants who collect the most trash in various categories will be eligible for prizes. Categories include most trash collected, most unusual item, and largest item recovered.

 

 How will the collected trash be handled?  

All trash collected will be sorted, documented, and properly disposed of, upcycled or recycled.

 

 What happens in case of bad weather?  

The event will proceed rain or shine unless severe weather conditions pose a safety risk. Updates will be posted on the official event page and sent via email to registered participants.
